Born in Saint Louis, Missouri Jadyn Monet is an aspiring film creative who specializes in post-production & cinematography with an interest in experimental and horror projects. As a black queer person raised in the “crime capital” of the midwest absurdity, both socially and aesthetically, has never been an unfamiliar concept to them.
Growing up in the midwest there is always this sense of there being something bigger and better for you out there. Whenever they tell someone they’re a filmmaker the immediate question is “where are you going to move to?” Due to the nature of this question their works developed a common theme of yearning, because as humans we all yearn for something. Emphasizing character, therefore, is a big proponent to how they approach filmmaking whether it be visually or textually. Both their love for foreign films and ideology of filmmaking was heavily influenced by them attending an all women's liberal arts college for two years.
It’s their hope that with each story they explore whether it be through editing, shooting and directing they can bring a piece of that midwestern urge to keep expanding and the black people urge to be seen and related to.
“The world needs more yearning…more absurdity” - Monet
